About Bangsar Bangsar is located in the heart of the city. One of the busiest areas in Kuala Lumpur, Bangsar exudes a lot of life and activities in the city. This is the place to be for many city dwellers and visitors alike. That which could always be said about Bangsar is that this is the place to unwind, to let your hair down and to have a good time. A quick glance at Bangsar would look like a modern metropolitan city with mushrooms of apartments and condominiums all over the skyline. Apart from the costly residential areas comprising primarily of Bansar Baru, Lucky Garden among some, there are two shopping malls with another one more being constructed and built in the coming months. Bangsar Shopping Complex otherwise known as BSC is a local favourite having served the community for many years. One of the earliest shopping mall in this area, BSC consists of its own supermarket, pharmacies, jeweler shops, boutiques and restaurants. A common stop by place for lunch and dinner is American Chillies which serves western cuisine and a very much sought after place to dine.
Located just a stone's throw away from the city centre, Bangsar is one of the most sought after townships in the Klang Valley. Managed under the jurisdiction of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Bangsar is all about lifestyle and entertainment, exuding these elements through its attractions throughout the township. Mentioning of the word Bangsar around town and you will most likely receive the 'happening' phrase to go with it. This is because, at nightfall, the commercial areas are lighted up within itself in within the various pubs, cafes and clubs that are opened throughout the evening. Weekends are when folks from all over the city throng the area for a night out hanging out with friends or for a gathering and such. Bangsar, which is under the Parliamentary constituency of Lembah Pantai is made up of the following residential areas. Taman SA, Bangsar Baru, Bangsar Utama, Pantai Hills, Bukit Bandaraya, Lucky Garden, the areas off Jalan Bangsar, Bukit Bangsar and Bangsar Park. History & Origins The township got its name from the words Bunge and Grisar, a Belgian and Frenchman respectively. They were the company that operated the Bunge-Grisar estate then. Before it was developed into a residential area, Bangsar was then owned by Socfin, a plantation firm and was previously used as housing facilities to the families of the employees of the then Malayan Railway and the National Electricity Board. Both these companies are known presently as Keretapi Tanah Melayu or KTM and Tenaga Nasional. In 1969, the first residential area sprouted out, it was Bangsar Park. From there Socfin began selling its land to private buyers and from then on, Bangsar began experiencing rapid development. By 1970, catering for the baby boomers in Kuala Lumpur. The Bangsar Landscape If you are familiar with Bangsar, chances are you will be very well aware of the main road in this township. Jalan Maarof splits Bangsar into 2 main areas, known as the east and the west areas. On the east of Bangsar, you will find residential areas like Bangsar Park, Bangsar Utama, Taman SA, a section of Bukit Bandaraya and another segment, together with other residential areas reside on the west. Over the past couple of years, Bangsar has become one of the most vibrant and dynamic townships in the Klang Valley. This is because despite being a major entertainment and commercial centre of the city, it has also been growing rapidly through new additions like the Bangsar Village and constant upgrades of current infrastructure like Bangsar Shopping centre and the convenience that is of Bangsar with nearby townships like Petaling Jaya and the city centre. Its location of the intersection between Kuala Lumpur's city centre with its suburbs meant that a lot of people would need to pass by Bangsar or its vicinities en route to and from work, which makes it an ideal place to stop by for a drink or for meals. Furthermore, Bangsar has its own set of attractions and facilities that are catered to the residents here, and hence there is seldom a necessity to get out of the township for sports or recreation. |
